Dead flies putrefy the perfumer's ointment, And cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.
Solomon gives to us an important principle by way of a clear illustration. A dead fly rotting in a perfume mixture negates the perfume entirely, making it unusable and not pleasant to smell any longer. In like manner, if you want to be respected as someone who is wise and honorable, be careful you do not allow a little folly to tarnish your reputation.
It doesn't take much to undermine the good stand we have in the eyes of others. There is certainly a time to laugh and a time to cry, but for those who have a reputation for wisdom and honor, a little folly can bring your influence for God's glory to a screeching halt. Be careful how you walk today for one dead fly can ruin an entire bottle of perfume. May God make your life an aroma for His glory (2 Corinthians 2:16).
Praying not to undermine His work in me,
