Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah: "I was no prophet, Nor was I a son of a prophet, But I was a sheepbreeder And a tender of sycamore fruit. Then the LORD took me as I followed the flock, And the LORD said to me, 'Go, prophesy to My people Israel.'"
Imagine being at work one day. You are pretty content with what you do. It pays the bills and provides with a little extra. As you are at war, the Lord tells you, "I want you to be a missionary!" You have no former training in this. You did not go to school for this. No one in your family has done this either.
This is what it was like for Amos. He was called away from his career with no experience in the field the Lord called him into, to be a prophet. God doesn’t need you to have all the pedigrees for what He calls you to do. Just like David, Amos, I am sure, would not have been our choice as most qualified. Be encouraged that when the Lord calls us, He qualifies us. If the Lord has called you out for something you feel unqualified for, that is ok. He will provide you all you need by the power of His Spirit. Take the step of faith and be obedient to His calling.
