"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Mark wrote his Gospel from the stories Peter told him about the earthly ministry of Jesus. Mark came to Jesus hearing these stories and later was led to write about how Jesus set before us the perfect example of a Servant in his life. As such, Mark fills his Gospel with Jesus' actions: healing, miracles, ministry, outreach, along with meeting needs and making the goodness of why He had come clear to the people.
We are now called to follow His example even as Jesus told the boys at the Last Supper after washing their feet (John 13:12-17). How would you rate yourself on the servanthood scale? Jesus got up early, stayed out late, loved His enemies, reached out to any who would hear, and allowed Himself to be taken advantage of for the sake of reaching a lost soul. Today, ask God how you can be more like Jesus, how you can serve and walk in His ways.
