Luke 6:12

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Luke 6:12

When Jesus made His choice of 12 disciples, it came from many months of observation and prayer. To know precisely the identity of these 12, He first called certain ones from the vast number who were following Him. Then at sunset, He retired to a night of prayer. This was a crucial time seeing that an all-night prayer meeting was required in order to know just the right choice of the Father. Could there have ever been a more fruitful time than that night spent in that mountain top closet that brought such lasting results?

So often we put prayer aside because of the busyness of our schedules. What if that had been the attitude or Jesus? Where would the Church be today? One can only imagine the mention of names and the review of character and situations from the past that brought discernment of choice. As the hours passed through the night, finally the will of heaven became earth’s knowledge. From these Scriptures, we should grasp the importance of prayer and be willing to pay the price and know that waiting on God will bring great permanency to our efforts. With our “quickie” ritualistic prayer meetings, is it no wonder that so much of the building, which we call the Church today, is nothing more than crumbling sandstone. Should we not take advantage of this great resource of prayer and go for eternal results?
