James 5:19-20

Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
James 5:19-20

These are the last two verses of the Book of James and he chooses to end his letter in an interesting way. After taking five chapters to boldly and passionately exhort us to make sure our outward actions match our inward convictions, he ends with a call to restoration. He basically tells us we need to look out for each other. We are ALL prone to wander, but isn't it life-giving to have those friends that love you enough to get in your grill and tell you you’re heading the wrong way?

May the Lord use us to "turn" a wandering friend from "the error of his way" and, by the way, you can't turn someone by pointing a finger, you have to put a loving, gentle, and humble arm around them to change their direction (Galatlans 6:1). You've thrown them the buoy that will bring them back to shore and saved them from drifting in a sea of sin, error, and the deadness of backsliding.

We’re all in this together,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
