1 Corinthians 15:17

And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!
1 Corinthians 15:17

People like to play mind games where they imagine what the world would be like depending on the situation. What would life be like if this presidential candidate had won over this other one or what if someone had stopped Hitler earlier?

Paul answers a rhetorical question here in 1 Corinthians. What if Jesus had not risen from the dead? How would have that changed the world? The first thing it would have done is make your faith futile or useless. If Jesus didn't resurrect, then why believe the Bible at all and why spend so much time in church and worshiping Him as your Savior?

What's interesting is that the second point made by Paul is that if Jesus didn't rise, we're all doomed. We're still in our sins! The truth of the matter is that sin's consequences must be dealt with. We're only getting to Heaven because Jesus died for our sins and rose again. Human nature itself tells us there must be a price paid for sin and if Jesus didn't pay it, we're all in trouble.

Thankfully, Jesus did rise and, thankfully, He did pay our debt. The answer to the problem of your sins isn't rhetorical but true. Praise Jesus!

Thanking God for the forgiveness of my sins,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
