John 16:12-13

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…”
John 16:12-13

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples at a very critical time—just before He was to leave them for the cross. He had told them of His coming death, and their hearts were very troubled. At this precarious hour, Jesus spoke to them of a Helper, the Holy Spirit, who was to teach them all things, bring to their remembrance His words, and guide them into all truth. Jesus was to be with them just a few more hours, but the Spirit was to dwell inside them and never leave them. In addition to guiding them and teaching them, the Spirit's ministry was to testify of Jesus (John 15:26), and to glorify Jesus (John 16:14).

Most of us, like the disciples, have come to critical times in our lives, and perhaps you are in one now. These words of Jesus are precious good news! God has many more things to teach us, but we cannot bear them now—we are not yet ready to receive them. However, the Spirit who dwells in us is the source of supernatural power who will help us. The Spirit will bear witness with our spirit and help us to bring glory to His name in the midst of our crisis. When we admit our helplessness apart from Him, the Spirit will come to us, equip us, teach us, and guide us into all truth.

"I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you," Jesus said in John 14:18. God has good and holy reasons for every trial, and the Spirit is our Helper to equip and guide us in the midst of it.
