Matthew 21:25-27

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' But if we say, 'From men,' we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet." So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know."
Matthew 21:25-27

When the chief priest and elders were countered with a question by Jesus, the text says that they "reasoned among themselves." It was a tough question for them because there were going to be consequences to either side that they took. So what did they do? They played the game and pretended that they didn't know.

A lot of times in life, when confronted with the truth, we like to skirt it by playing the game as well. We know the truth, we know what the Bible says, we know the Holy Spirit is telling us to do something, and yet we play the ignorance card. We do our best to convince ourselves that "we don't know". But we know, and we aren't fooling God, just like these fools didn't fool Jesus. The truth is the truth and there is no need to play any games with it because when we do, we end up losing just like the chief priest and elders who walked away looking foolish.
