Proverbs 24:10

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
Proverbs 24:10

Adversity is the instrument, or tool, that is used to reveal what we are really made of. It reveals our character, our flaws, our strengths, and weaknesses; it exposes the good and the bad. Trials have the power to literally bring us to nothing, like a stone crushed to powder. When the trials of adversity come crashing down on us, we can either faint or have faith. We faint when we believe that there is nothing left to stand on, when all options have been exhausted, and all you can see is imminent doom.

When we trust in ourselves, we're going to find that our strength is pretty small when the big trials hit. But when we trust in Jesus, when we build our house on the Rock of Christ, no trial, adversity, or storm can take us out. That means you can have everything stripped from you and yet you can still stand because your faith is anchored in the Rock that is immovable.

Our faith is only as strong as the object we put it into. Therefore, faith in ourselves will yield little strength. But faith in Christ will supply us with the strength to overcome.
