2 Peter 1:16

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
2 Peter 1:16

Peter, in writing his dying letter to some suffering saints, tells them that he did not make this stuff up. He didn't tell them what he had heard about Jesus but what he had seen. He saw the power of Jesus firsthand. He was there. In Matthew 17:1-8, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain by themselves. There we read that Jesus was transfigured before them. There His clothes became white as the light and Moses and Elijah appeared talking with Jesus.

We all have heard that story that a friend told us that they got from a cousin’s brother. Some of them are just stories families have told for years. I have heard the same story from different people in many different ways until finally, I got to the source. Peter was not following something that was made up but was following what he had seen and experienced. My encouragement is to take what God's word says to heart "for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (1 Peter 1:21).
