Ephesians 6:16

Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Ephesians 6:16

The shield here that Paul is talking about was big. Four feet tall and two feet wide. The Greek word thyreos can be translated as "small door." It was big enough for a Roman soldier to hide behind as the enemy hurled flaming arrows at him.

This is how Paul describes our faith. It is our shield. It's big enough for us to hide behind. As we step out and begin to live our lives for Christ, our enemy hurls fiery darts at us, including depression, discouragement, fear, and the like. It is our instinct to panic as we see the fires all around us and forget our faith. But this shield will not only protect us, it has the power to put out the fire.

This faith that we hide behind is our knowledge of all that Christ has done for us, and the hope of what He will do. When trouble comes, pick up your shield of faith. Remember how precious you are to God. Don't panic! Don't forget all that God has done for you and you will endure.

Shield at the ready,

Pastor Rod Harris
