Colossians 4:2

Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2

As Paul is finishing up his letter to the Colossians, he gives a simple and straightforward exhortation for one of the most important disciplines we exercise as Christians; prayer. He's saying be faithful and steadfast in your prayer life; be devoted; don't quit. Jesus said we ought to pray always and not lose heart (Luke 18:1). This is not a suggestion that God is reluctant to answer prayer and we need to "wear Him out." He loves to answer but at times, He delays to increase our faith or to accomplish His right timing. "God's delays are not always God's denials."

When we pray, we should always have an attitude of thanksgiving. What do we call a child that only asks and never says thanks for the gifts given him? We call him a BRAT! How grateful we should be that at Calvary, Jesus tore the veil and blazed the way for us right into the very presence of God. We can come to Him whenever we like, stay as long as we like, and talk to Him about anything we like. That should make us VERY thankful.

Earnestly with thanksgiving,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
