1 Peter 5:5b-7

1 Peter 5:5b-7

…and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

1 Peter 5:5b-7

We all get dressed in the morning and at times carefully pick out what we’re going to wear. But what should we dress our souls in? Peter gives us the answer in the verses above as he reminds us to “clothe yourselves with humility toward one another” (1 Peter 5:5). This imagery of putting on humility like a garment suggests an intentional, daily choice. Humility is the currency of God’s blessing. You want God’s blessing upon your life? You want to be the recipient of God’s grace, His unmerited favor that you cannot earn, that you do not deserve? Humble yourself.

In what areas of your life do you struggle with pride? How can you actively choose humility in your relationships, work, or service? Remember, humility isn’t thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. As you cast your anxieties on God, trust that He cares for you deeply. Let this truth empower you to live humbly, knowing your worth comes from Him, not your own accomplishments or status. Genuine humility displays itself in dependency. Lord, I’m dependent upon you.
