2 Peter 1:12-13

2 Peter 1:12-13

For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you.

2 Peter 1:12-13

Peter writes here “for this reason.” For what reason? Because I don’t want them to be unfruitful, he didn’t want to see them stumble, and because he wanted them to live with the hope of eternity with our Lord (2 Peter 1:5-11). Peter writes to remind them, though he knows that they know these things and are being established in them, wanting to use the time he has been given by the Lord to “stir them up by reminding them.”

I have heard it said that you are either moving forward or going backward in your walk with Jesus. You are either in drive or reverse, there is no neutral gear in our spiritual life. Therefore it doesn’t hurt at all to be reminded of those things that will move us forward as we seek to serve and glorify or Lord. It’s something that we are called to do for one another, as we read in Hebrews 10:24, “let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works” or as the NIV puts it, “let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds.”

Who would the Lord have you “spur on” today by reminding them of God’s great promises to us from His word?
