2 Peter 1:21

2 Peter 1:21

For prophesy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:21

The Bible has been described as the Word of God, a collection of sacred works, God’s message to humankind, and to a lesser degree, Basic Instructions Before Leaving the Earth. However one chooses to phrase the definition of what the Bible is, there is one thing that must be agreed upon; the Bible is not of human origin or influence. To attribute the authorship to anyone other than God changes its holiness and design. When one begins to believe that human intervention played a hand in authorship, one begins to take authorship. This is where we must draw a hard line; God is the author and finisher of the 66 canonical books contained in the Bible.

It’s true that God used humans to pen the writings contained in His book, but it was as the Spirit engaged and inspired them to write. Some wrote from first-hand account, some from direct quotation from God, and some even wrote what they did not completely understand. We can be assured that the words we read in Scripture are from God and are lacking nothing. Proverbs 30:5 tells us that, “Every word of God is pure,” bringing us comfort for our every situation. So the next time someone tells you the Bible was written by men, simply agree and say, “Yes it was written by men; men who were inspired, instructed, and guided by God and His mighty Spirit.”
