2 Peter 2:18

2 Peter 2:18

For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.

2 Peter 2:18

Peter spends much of his second epistle writing about false teachers. It was a problem in Peter’s day and it hasn’t gone away. The above verse is a great description of the doctrine of false teachers. They speak great swelling words; they can charm a room, they can bring the bluster and they can pound the pulpit at the right time; but they don’t give you God’s words, just their own.

They allure through lust of the flesh and lewdness; there is no condemnation of sin coming in their messages, just acceptance of what the world accepts. Anyone is welcome in our church, they’d say, you don’t have to worry about being offended. Well, anyone is welcome in Bible-teaching churches also, but there’s no guarantee they’re going to like the message.

If you’re looking for a church, look for one not trying to be people-pleasers, but God-pleasers; those that are teaching the Bible correctly, not ignoring the Scriptures entirely.

Looking for God’s Word taught accurately,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
