2 Peter 1:10
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble.
2 Peter 1:10
In verses five through seven of second Peter, he gives us a list of character traits that we should work diligently on to add to our faith so that we are fruitful in our knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 1:8), and he goes on to say, “Whoever lacks these qualities is so near sighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins”(2 Peter 1:9 ESV). Today’s verse is the conclusion to that thought. The verse is not implying that you can lose your salvation when it states, “to make your calling and election sure.” What it is saying is that putting into practice these character traits will keep you from stumbling, confirming the calling the Lord has placed on our lives.
What a powerful remedy we have to fight off the constant attacks of the enemy. Now we know that we still live in our flesh and will stumble, but we can certainly reduce the changes of that happening by adhering to a diligent pursuit of building upon our faith the traits of virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.
