Luke 17:7-10

Luke 17:7-10

“And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, come at once and sit down and eat?  But will he not rather say to him, prepare something for my supper and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk and afterward you will eat and drink?  Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him?  I think not.  So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, we are unprofitable servants.  We have done what was our duty to do.”

Luke 17:7-10

This is the story of the call to Christian duty.  And this story is telling us that if a common servant is faithful to obey the orders of his master, who does not reward (thank) him, how much more ought Christians to obey their loving Master.

So what is the proper attitude as we serve our God?  Jesus says that I ought to do what God has called me to do,not because I expect anything in return, but because I love Him.

God has called us to follow Him and to serve Him and to give to Him for one reason only, love.   So, why do you do what you do for God?  Do you think He owes you anything because of your efforts? Or that you get bonus points?  Or do you do what you do purely out of love for Him?  That’s something to ask yourself from time to time.

Love my Lord!
