Joshua 20:1-3
The Lord also spoke to Joshua, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Appoint for yourselves cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses, that the slayer who kills a person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there; and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
Joshua 20:1-3
The concept of the cities of refuge in Joshua is interesting. They would be cities spread throughout this new land of Israel that would be sanctuaries for those who accidentally killed a person. The guilty person had to get to one of these cities before the family of the victim caught up with him. Once there, he was safe from punishment.
Those cities of refuge are a picture of Jesus. We, who are sinners, can run into the arms of Jesus and have sanctuary from the eternal punishment for our sins.
All of us are guilty. Romans 3:23 says, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We all need to go to our city of refuge – Jesus Christ – for His salvation and to have eternal life. Have you given your life to Jesus today? Pray right where you’re at and ask Him to save you!
Jesus is my refuge!
