Matthew 6:1-4

Matthew 6:1-4

1.“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2.Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3.But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4.that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

Matthew 6:1-4

We live in a day in age where people post anything and everything about their lives, even the things that they should keep to themselves. They can’t do a decent deed without posting it for all to see, they don’t care about the deed in it of itself but rather want the appraisal of men. That is completely contrary to the way the Lord calls us as followers of Christ to live and act. How often do we ask ourselves the motives that drive us to do certain things; do we do it for the appraisal of men? As we serve Christ we have to be aware of our own motives as to why we serve, why we do certain things, our hearts have to be set to worship and glorify God in everything that we do. These verses remind us that we are not to make decisions or act a certain way in order to be liked or gain favor with man. Rather our desires should be to honor the Lord, to serve Him and do things so we can point others to Him. What we do for the Lord will always be rewarded whether it is with earthly blessings or knowing that we were faithful to the Lord and we represented Him well. All things done for the glory of the Lord will be rewarded no matter how big or how small.
