2 Samuel 7:5-6

“Go and tell My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Would you build a house for Me to dwell in? For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in a tent and in a tabernacle.”

2 Samuel 7:5-6 

Has God ever said no to one of your prayers? He has for me many times. Here, David wanted to build a temple for God and give the ark a permanent house instead of a tent. But God said no. Later we learn that it was because David was a man of war, and not the right man to build the temple that represented peace between man and God. 

But even though God told David no, He had something better in store for him. God tells him a few verses later He will build David a house instead. And in those verses, He promises to bring the Messiah through David’s bloodline. 

When God answers no to a prayer, He knows better, as our Father in Heaven, what we need. And He might have something so much greater in store for us.
