Philippians 4:17-19
Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:17-19
Though Paul had received financial support for some of the churches he had established, it wasn’t the money he was rejoicing in. He just wanted to see the evidence that the Lord was at work and spiritual fruit abounding in the Philippian lives. It was all about what God was doing in them. They were investing in the eternal things as Paul faithfully answered His calling.
Not everyone can go to the mission field, but everyone can have a part in the fruit that is produced. Jesus said in Matthew 6 that if we lay up treasures for ourselves on earth, it would only result in them being moth eaten, rusted, or stolen. But if we lay up our treasures in heaven where moths, rust, and thieves can’t get their grimy little hands on them, not only will they be safe but it will be evidence that our hearts are focused on heavenly things.
If you use your resources, your time, your money, and your gifts, on heavenly things, not only will you have treasure in heaven, but confidence that “God will supply all of your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
