Psalm 103:8

Psalm 103:8

The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

Psalm 103:8

There are many times in the Bible the Lord’s mercy and grace is mentioned and I love every one of them. The one above is particularly appealing as it not only mentions God’s mercy, not getting what we deserve, and His grace, getting what we don’t deserve, but also that He is slow to anger. God will dispense justice, which is getting what we do deserve, but it’s not done hastily or with pleasure.

Throughout the Scriptures, there are examples of God’s patience. He gave Jacob chance after chance despite how much he messed up. As Solomon’s wife total mounted, He didn’t judge him hastily. He gave Nineveh a chance to repent in Jonah and only judged them hundreds of years later, as seen in Nahum.

How many times has the Lord allowed us to mess up and still forgiven us? Isn’t it good our God is slow to anger and abounding in mercy. I’m glad He’s not quick to anger and lacking in mercy. We serve a loving, merciful, and gracious God!

Praise You for Your mercy,

Pastor Ron Kitchell
