Proverbs 1:33
But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.
Proverbs 1:33
Enough said! Amen and Amen! In contemporary slang, “He just dropped the microphone!” Oftentimes, the Bible cannot be any clearer or any less obvious. The book of Proverbs is full of practical living for anyone who seeks to live a life that glorifies God without fear, without folly, and without emptiness. However, even though Proverbs was written by the wisest man who ever lived, Solomon, he still made some pretty dumb choices. And we are no different. With all the wisdom the Bible gives us, we can still be incredibly dumb.
Proverbs emphasizes two opposites: wisdom and folly. Wisdom is what we love to hear, and it makes us feel good to know there is hope for sinners like us. However, on the other side, we have folly sitting on our shoulders like a little devil in a cartoon sketch. Folly smells good, and its sweet aroma has caused stronger people than us to fall. The Scriptures are very clear in these 31 chapters to caution us against leaning into folly and not adhering to the voice of wisdom. Over and over, the book of Proverbs makes clear the repercussions of bad choices and the blessings that come from good ones. Let’s make sure we are applying wisdom to our walks and not just reading those words.
God Bless,
