Job 1:20

Job 1:20

Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
Job 1:20

Job had just lost everything. This is his immediate reaction to hearing about the death of his ten children and the theft of all his possessions. He falls to the ground and worships God.

It’s hard to imagine what he was going through, having lost everything in the blink of an eye. But his response is what teaches us. He doesn’t curse God, he doesn’t throw a pity party, he doesn’t rush out to fight. Instead, he mourns, but he also worships.

Worship is the best response to suffering for a couple of reasons. First, it will remind you who is in control at all times. Worshiping God will help you focus on God and how He is the one we lean on in times of trial. Second, worship will orient you towards God and off of yourself. Then, you will be reminded of his goodness and faithfulness. Your trials will begin to shrink when you keep your eyes on how big God is.

Blessed be the name of the Lord,
