2 Kings 22:11-13

Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes. Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest…saying, “Go, inquire of the LORD for me, for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is aroused against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
2 Kings 22:11-13

This passage refers to Josiah, the king of Judah, who was going about his business one day when the scribe walked in with a dusty old scroll. The priest had been conducting an inventory of the Temple, and somewhere in a back corner, he came upon this dusty and cobwebbed scroll and brought it to the scribe. The scribe read it and immediately took it to the king. As he unrolled the cracked and dry parchment and began to read, the king was suddenly struck to the heart. These were the words of the Law, and Josiah realized there had been generations of sin in his kingdom.

The beginning of this chapter describes Josiah as a good king who did what was right in the sight of the Lord. But there was something missing in his reign: God’s Word. When it was brought to his attention, he reacted righteously and commanded the priest to make intercession for him and the people. You may be doing well in your walk with the Lord, but is your Bible collecting dust? Let Josiah be an example for you: crack open those pages of God’s precious Word and let His Spirit teach you the areas where you may lack. Then react righteously, ask for forgiveness, and walk in obedience to His Word.
