Galatians 5:8-9
This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
Galatians 5:8-9
When Paul spoke to the churches in Galatia, he was surprised to find how quickly they had returned to their former ways. Indeed, they professed to be Christians but preached that it came with an entry fee. If one was not willing to convert to Judaism and uphold the Mosaic laws, then they could not be “real” Christians. Have we gone so far at times that we could compare ourselves to the churches in Galatia? Or, more so, have we ever been guilty of adding our own stipulations to what it means to be a “real” Christian?
God does not tell us that we must be legalistic like the Pharisees. As a matter of fact, that was the very reason He sent His Son: to know that all that was required was faith. When the Bible mentions leaven, it is referring to sin. It is amazing how little a bit of leaven is needed in order to infect the whole lump of bread. Living with grace on our minds will often cause us not to speak up when it comes to ruffling feathers. But sometimes it is necessary to speak out against legalism that is trying to add conditions to the Christian life. We are required to be obedient to the fact that God’s words are the final authority.
God Bless,
