1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18
Not everyone who hears of the Good News will accept it. Not all will put their faith in Jesus. Paul tells us that here in chapter 1 of 1 Corinthians, that to them, it is foolishness. Even as they spiritually perish. But for those who are being saved, the message of the cross is the power of God in our lives.
What an amazing thing to hear. No power, no work, no achievement is needed from us. All the power to save comes from the finished work of Jesus on the cross, as He took our sins upon Himself.
Paul says in the previous verse that Christ did not send him to preach the Gospel with wisdom of words. And he will say at the beginning of chapter 2 that he simply preached Christ and Him crucified. The message of the cross is the power of God to save; It doesn’t need our help. It doesn’t need to be dressed up as we share it; it doesn’t need to be presented in the wisdom of words; it just needs to be shared. If it was sufficient to save you, it is sufficient to save others.
Saved by the power of God,
