Proverbs 6:22

Proverbs 6:22

When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you.

Proverbs 6:22

This passage describes the effect on your life of keeping God’s word ever-present in your heart and close at hand like a tool (Proverbs 6:21). By saturating your heart with God’s word, every aspect of your life will be permeated by truth. When you need to “fix” one of life’s sudden difficulties that spring forth like a burst water pipe, the tool is ready by your side to make the quick repair before the house is flooded, minimizing damage.

God’s word is there as you navigate your day, guiding you through the path that you should walk, not only for the day’s journey but also for the course of your destination. God’s word is there as you sleep, guarding your mind and giving you assurance of peace and, therefore, deep rest. God’s word is there when you awake before the thoughts and tasks of the day crowd your mind. The word is alive; it speaks to you, and meditating on it first thing in the morning is a great way to begin your day. The bottom line is that we cannot take too much of God’s word in, and we should never stop consuming it.
