Romans 1:17
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:17
Paul writes to the believers in Rome to encourage and equip them with sound gospel doctrine. Throughout the chapters of the book, he makes it a point numerous times that salvation is granted by faith and not through one’s works. This was different than what the Jewish people were accustomed to, having lived by the Old Testament Law and being told how to maintain their salvation by the Pharisees and scribes. The fact that those who were able to live day to day because of merely their “faith” and find favor in God’s eyes was a different concept since the Law required more deeds than just faith.
When we think of “living,” we tend to think of the immediate. But being that we have been justified by God based on faith, and faith alone means so much more. Living by being justified by God means not just a single event or several events. Living by faith means we shall live eternally. There is a permanence, or rather a never-ending state of life that will go on forever, because our faith is the key to not only our salvation in title, but the reason we will live and reign forever with God. So, rejoice and be glad. Your faith in Jesus has saved you and will keep you alive eternally. Glory be to God!
