2 Thessalonians 2:15

Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
2 Thessalonians 2:15

Paul is writing to a church that was living in a world much like ours today, a world that is hostile to the things of God and resistant to the truth of God’s word, and his encouragement to them is to “Stand fast and hold on the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.”

The word “traditions” here doesn’t mean traditions in the sense of “Oh, this is always the way we have always done it,” but it means to hang on to the things that have been handed down to you. What things are those? “The things you were taught, whether by word or our epistle,” the things that Paul taught them “by word” when he was with them, and the things he was teaching them “by epistle,” through letters that he had written to them.

We would do well to “stand fast and hold on” to those things as well. To love the word of God and desire it more than our daily food (yes, even more than that double-double from In-N-Out), allowing it to satisfy our soul. The word of God is amazing, the scriptures bring us wisdom, they will encourage us and keep us strong, and they will sustain us and set us apart for the Lord in this world. So, stand fast, hold on, and dig into the word.
