Psalm 127:1-2
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.
Psalm 127:1-2
This song of Solomon, as the header to this psalm will tell you, gives us a principle that we must know and learn well. Anything we do must have God’s handprint upon it if we expect it to last and succeed. Whether that was building the house, in this case the temple for Solomon, a watchman seeking to provide protection for his community, or any of us laying awake in bed with worry and concerns.
Unless the Lord builds, watches, and is our hope, we are just spinning our wheels. Yet when the Lord is involved, when He leads us and guides us and we step out in His power, then rest and sweet sleep can be the result. Our labor must be found in Him. Our work must be done looking to Him, and our worries laid at His feet. May you have a profitable and restful day in Him!
So excited God is at work in me!
