Obadiah 1:3

The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’
Obadiah 1:3

Obadiah wrote to the prideful nation of Edom that dwelt in the mountain areas of northern Israel. God judged the Edomites for taking part in attacks against Israel. Obadiah points out that it was their pride that led them to take sides against God’s people. And pride that would be their downfall.
So often, pride goes unnoticed, it is underneath the surface where it deceives, as Obadiah points out with the Edomites. And so often it is pride that will keep people from the Lord. Pride in themselves that they don’t need Him for salvation, so that they are unwilling to humble themselves.

Pride can be dangerous for Christians as well, as we think we do things ourselves instead of relying on the Lord.
Today let’s seek the Lord and put away any pride that is in us.
