Acts 6:3
Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business
Acts 6:3
As the church began to grow, the pressure on the apostles to forsake their times of study and prayer to administrate the various needs that arose in the church became great. According to Acts 6, their solution was to find godly men of good reputation, filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom to oversee the care of those needs while the apostles continued in their calling to teach His Word.
It was a good choice of action that God blessed and it also gives to us a principle we should know. When needs arise, God’s counsel is to find those with a godly reputation whose life exemplifies Him. The same counsel was given to Moses in Exodus 18 as he was choosing men with whom to share His growing responsibilities. That decision God also blessed and Moses mentions his joy over it in Deuteronomy 1.
If you are looking to have God use you in greater ways, may I suggest plugging yourself into the place God has put you and being that godly brother or sister who is ready on a moment’s notice to step up and step through the open door of need and God’s continued work as it presents itself.
Wanting to be ready for every good work,
