Philippians 2:19-21

Philippians 2:19-21

But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 2:19-21

I am always amazed when I read this that Paul, after so many years of ministry, could still only find one other man who shared his heart for God’s people as did Timothy. He even said they found most served for their own purposes and not for the glory of God or for the good of God’s people. Because it is such a startling statement, I am ever conscious before God to be sure to check my motives and pray often that God keep my heart to be like His. Dying to self and serving others make you most like Jesus.

In our day, as in Paul’s day, that is often a platitude rather than a reality. May the Lord today reveal your heart and what is driving it! Are you serving for self or serving for others and for His glory? Maybe if Paul could look around today, he would find more than just one man!

Make me more like you, Lord,

Pastor Jack Abeelen
