Exodus 7:6-7
Then Moses and Aaron did so; just as the Lord commanded them, so they did. And Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Exodus 7:6-7
“It isn’t over until it’s over!” We’ve all heard that before. It is true now and it certainly was true in the time of Moses. Here was someone chosen by God to speak before the court of Pharaoh at an age where most of us would be happy just sitting and watching our grandchildren run around. God’s timing is usually a thing that seldom makes sense to us, but nonetheless it is in perfect timing with His plans. What usually hinders God’s plans for us is our unwillingness to bend our ways of thinking and our societal normative mindset. If I look back on my own life, I see a recurring pattern; God’s ways and timing are the best, and mine are usually not.
I can’t imagine thinking that my twilight years of ease would be interrupted with something as daunting as going before a feared ruler and demand he listen to God’s will. Fear of death might have even come upon me. But in the case of Moses and Aaron, they did just as the Lord commanded. They went before Pharoah, again and again, and remained faithful to their true King. God will always go before those who live in fear and obedience of Him. Not even age will play a factor when God chooses to use them. Maybe the saying should go something like this, “It is not over until God calls us home.” As far as God is concerned, age truly is just a number.
