Psalm 63:8
My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.
Psalm 63:8
How close are you to God on a moment-by-moment and day-by-day basis? I know we all draw close to Him in these times of devotion when we’ve set aside everything else and focus our sole attention to our loving Savior and Lord. But what about when we go into our day and the coffee cup is already in the sink and the car is running ready to take us off to work or the kids to school or the errands that need to be done. Do we acknowledge that God is not only present but also right there to help us and hold us up any moment of the day?
I remember when my son was just a little guy. We were going to the beach and I was walking in the sand with my arms full of stuff to our spot. I wondered if my son was coming and so I quickly turned around to look and he was following so closely behind me that I whapped him in the head with the aluminum chair. He wanted to be right there behind me walking in my footsteps.
This accident reoccurred many times over as he was determined to follow close behind his dad. He was confident that walking there was the best and safest place to be, and that dad’s strength (right hand) would uphold him. David the psalmist lived for God, by walking with God, and he found security in following close. May we follow so close that when God turns around to see if we’re coming, He’ll whap us in the head with His open arms.
Staying close,
