James 1:2-4
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
James 1:2-4
The call to rejoice in suffering seems counterintuitive, yet it’s a recurring theme in Scripture. This joy isn’t about feeling happy about pain, but about recognizing the spiritual growth it can produce. The patience that’s produced is not a passive waiting but a willful and hopeful perseverance.
We can take this opportunity and practice shifting our perspective on a difficult situation. Can you find something to be thankful for within it? How might this trial be producing patience or maturity in you? Ask God to help you see your struggles through His eyes, and to give you the strength to “count it all joy” as you trust in His purposes.
