Romans 8:5-6, 13

Romans 8:5-6, 13

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace… For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Romans 8:5-6, 13

Every believer battles the lust of the flesh—those cravings for forbidden things that war against the Spirit. This isn’t limited to sexual sin; it encompasses worldly ambition, selfish desires, and self-seeking behaviors. Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:17 that the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh. This internal conflict is evidence of your salvation, not a sign of its absence. Victory comes not through self-effort but through walking in the Spirit. When God reveals a weakness in your life, He’s not condemning you—He’s showing you a new mountain to conquer in His strength. It’s always healthy to acknowledge your specific weaknesses to God. Don’t look for the temptation; look for the escape He faithfully provides. His grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in your weakness.
