Malachi 2:13b-15

Malachi 2:13b-15

… He does not regard the offering anymore, Nor receive it with goodwill from your hands. Yet you say, “For what reason?” Because the Lord has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant. But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth.

Malachi 2:13b-15

Jesus revealed a profound truth: Moses permitted divorce because of the hardness of human hearts, but “from the beginning it was not so.” God hates divorce because it covers one’s garment with violence—it tears apart what He joined together. Yet God’s law made provision for our brokenness, acknowledging the reality of sin’s destructive power in relationships. The hardness of heart exists on both sides: the one who causes offense and the one who struggles to forgive.

God understands the weight of betrayal and the difficulty of extending grace. If your heart has grown cold toward your spouse, acknowledge your inability before God. He specializes in softening hardened hearts and restoring what seems irreparably broken. Transparency before God is the first step toward restoration.
