Acts 9:6

Acts 9:6

So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Acts 9:6

Saul was on his way to Damascus with letters permitting him to arrest and persecute Christians. On the way, He has an encounter with Jesus; he is knocked down and blinded. He rightly asks what he is supposed to do; Jesus’ response to him is very short and simple: “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

The Lord doesn’t tell him a long list of things he must then begin to do; he isn’t told all the things he would do and endure for the sake of the gospel. He is simply given the next step.

And this is often how the Lord leads us. We are shown only the next step, if we are faithful to do that, then we receive the next step, and so on and so forth. The Lord is wise to do this, as we are liable to drop the ball and get ahead of ourselves. But with just one step in front of us, like Saul here, we can faithfully obey the Lord.

Taking the next step,

Pastor David Reeves
