Deuteronomy 27:8

Deuteronomy 27:8

And you shall write very plainly on the stones all the words of this law.

Deuteronomy 27:8

Moses is instructing the people to set up stones on Mount Ebal and write the entirety of the law on them after they cross over the Jordan river into the promised land. The Lord did not want any distraction or hindrance to come between the people and knowing His word.  The stones themselves were to be plain and not to be tooled with iron (Deuteronomy 27:4-5) so that craftsmanship would not distract the people and so that no glory would be taken away from God.

Note that the writing was to be very plain.  God is clear in His word; He doesn’t hide what He desires in our lives. Christianity is not mysterious. Jesus died for our sins, and all that is required to become a child of God and be with Him for eternity is to repent of our sin and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.  From that point, we have God’s word and the Holy Spirit to teach us how to walk with Him.  Plain and simple. Thank God that He is a God of love, grace, and mercy and wants us to know Him personally and makes it easy to approach Him because of the blood of Jesus Christ.
