Deuteronomy 30:11

Deuteronomy 30:11

For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off.

Deuteronomy 30:11

In Moses’ concluding teachings to the Israelites, he says to them that God’s commands are not some sort of mystery or so far away that they are not obtainable. God delivered His word plainly and clearly to Israel through Moses., and, as a result, Moses said, “But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart that you may do it” (Deuteronomy 30:14). So just like James would later command in James 1:22, Moses commands in verse 14 that we are to do what God’s word says.

Taking in God’s word is not enough, if we do not let it affect change in our lives. The expectation is that we hear the word of God and do it (Luke 8:21) and that our lives be transformed (Romans 12:2). Romans 6:7 talks about obeying, “From the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.” As we are sanctified daily, we must submit to God and let the doctrine found in His word shape us.

What a blessing we have God’s word to us recorded in the Bible. Let us dig in daily and let it mold and shape us; let it take an active role in our lives.
