Ephesians 2:8-9

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

Most people think they understand the gravity of bestowing grace towards others. Allowing grace to flow from ourselves to other people is a lot weightier than just giving someone a break or “cutting them some slack.” The grace that is mentioned in the Bible can only be attained though the work of the cross. Grace and faith are part of the gifts that God wants to give us in addition to eternal life. And without the grace bestowed to us, even our ability to have faith would not be possible. We would simply go through life trying to give ourselves “pep talks.”

Grace can only be administered from us to others if we have God’s blessing and his sanctifying power. Without divine assistance, it is not possible to give something that we are incapable of giving. Grace is included with that. And the faith that we proclaim is only possible to acquire because of the grace God has given us. So, in short, you cannot save anyone, including yourself; only God can do that. And you cannot give something that you never would have had to begin with if it wasn’t for the work of God and what His Son did on the cross. Faith is a precious byproduct of the grace that was given freely to us. And what we can give to others is only what the Father has first given to us. Now go and grow in that grace and faith.
