Ephesians 4:29

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Ephesians 4:29

If one has had the opportunity to grow up in a desert area or an especially dry climate, they know the dangers of wildfire and the damage that can happen. Fire moves quickly and spares no one in its path. Keeping one’s house and land in a manner that prevents wildfire from utterly consuming everything is often the first and best defense. But fire is not the only thing that spreads quickly and causes much destruction. Our speech is also similar to wildfire.

The rate at which gossip and slander spread amongst people, including those in the church today, is astonishing. Words can destroy and turn people away from the only thing that should be spreading, and that is the gospel. Given that we are to be ambassadors of Jesus, it is the responsibility of every believer to keep their temples in a manner that prevents verbal wildfire. If anything is to be circulated or expanded upon, it should always be what God has to say. Since we are saved by grace and kept by grace, let us be conscious to speak with grace and avoid burning down the whole field.

God Bless,
