Ephesians 5:1

Ephesians 5:1

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

Ephesians 5:1

Kids always take on the characteristics of their parents, both good and bad. It’s just what happens as you spend a lot of time with someone. As we abide with Jesus, spending time in His presence, we begin to take on His characteristics as well.

While Jesus was here on Earth, He relied on His time spent in fellowship with the Father so He might be our perfect example. He said in John 5:19, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

You see the imitation that God speaks of here goes much farther that just copying someone’s movements, just mimicking them as they move their arms or legs and saying,  “Look I’m just like them!” No, this kind of imitation is only accomplished through a relationship with the one we are following after.
