Exodus 23:10-11

Exodus 23:10-11

Six years you shall sow your land and gather in its produce, but the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, that the poor of your people may eat; and what they leave, the beasts of the field may eat. In like manner you shall do with your vineyard and your olive grove.

Exodus 23:10-11

This law in Exodus to the Israelites took an inordinate amount of faith. The farmer was supposed to let his land rest for one out of every seven years. To do this meant you trusted the Lord to provide for you in a miraculous way.

It turns out that kind of trust didn’t exist much in Israel. They went 490 years without ever letting the land rest and so the Lord assigned 70 years of captivity to them to make up for the one-seventh of years they didn’t follow His commandments.

God often asks us to do things we’re not comfortable with, but it’s important to remember He has his reasons. What has God asked you do you’re setting aside? Learn the lesson from this story that God wants the best for you and that best comes from obedience.
