Genesis 24:62-63

Genesis 24:62-63

Now Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he dwelt in the South. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels [were] coming.

Genesis 24:62-63

On the header of this chapter of Genesis in my Bible it says, “A Wife for Isaac”. There are 67 verses in chapter 24 of Genesis, but we don’t see Isaac present until verse 62. That means for 61 verses the Lord was working behind the scenes on Isaac’s behalf. As a matter of fact, we haven’t seen or heard from Isaac since that scene on Mount Moriah in Genesis 22. So, in essence, Isaac goes from being saved on the altar to standing at the alter with Rebekah.

As I consider this section of scripture, I can’t help but see Isaac’s obedience. I see him trusting his father and his God enough to willingly go up the mountain to worship, even though he didn’t know where the sacrifice was coming from. I see a man who would experience the faithfulness and mercy of God firsthand, seeing the ram caught in the thicket. I see a man who was willing to wait on the Lord and let Him bring his wife at the perfect time. I see a man who is taken care of by a loving and a powerful God.

Is there something you’ve been waiting on? How have you been waiting? Take a page out of Isaac’s book and spend your time with the Lord “meditating in a field” while He is simultaneously at work on your behalf.

“But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
