Hebrews 10:25

Hebrews 10:25

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:25

The account comes to mind of D. L Moody, who in the late 1800s had the opportunity to lead his banker to the Lord. But the banker felt no need to come to church to be a Christian, so Moody invited him to his home one day. The men went back and forth as to the need for church and then Moody invited the banker over to the fireplace. The hearth was aglow with red hot embers, Moody grabbed the tongs and lifted one piece out of the fire and laid in on the bricks alone. In seconds it went from a glowing red to coal black, while the rest of the embers burned brightly. The banker was in church the next week.

We’re to keep the fires of the Spirit burning brightly in “one another” so Christian warmth can be communicated back and forth. If we stay away, we lose our fervor and get cold toward the things of God.  Soon we look no different from the world. As the “Day” is coming near and the darkness increases, believers will really need each other’s fellowship.

Staying aglow,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
