Hebrews 3:12-13

Hebrews 3:12-13

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Hebrews 3:12-13

Just as the Word of God comes to us fresh each day, so does the opportunity to harden our hearts against it. We need to “beware” or “take heed” to do what is said, and it begins at the individual level. This “evil heart” is an evil that isn’t content unless it is dragging someone else down with it. The result is “departing” – to stand off from, or apostasy. So, an evil heart is the root; departing is the fruit.

The cure for this calcification is found in the cooperation of the body. We are to look out for and help each other. You should have someone in your life that you can go deep with. We must counter each other with active and continuous “exhortation. And it NEEDS to be done TODAY.” Don’t let the sun go down on your fellow believers.

Spurring on to godliness,

Pastor Gerard Deleeuw
